Last nite I attended the 2nd Annual Art of Fashion at the world-renowned Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park, San Diego. This “jewel” of a museum holds a collection of European and American Masters, as well as Russian Icons. Each work of art is considered one of the finest examples of each artist represented–which is why the Museum is considered a “jewel” in the world of art museums.
The event is a delightful pairing of select Timken masterpieces with the creative talent of students and graduates of the Fashion Careers College. This College is a highly regarded school (in San Diego since 1979) whose emphasis is Fashion Business & Technology and Fashion Design & Technology.
The creative process begins by assigning one of FCC’s students or graduates to a select masterpeice of the Timken collection. As described in the evening’s program, “The inspiration from the painting begins with several sketches, one being chosen to represent the costume that will be created by the designer to ‘come alive’ at the evening’s event.”
What talent and creativity!! And what fun to enjoy! The Timken Museum is my favorite small museum in the world! And this annual event has to rank right up there with “most fun at a museum.”
