Rancho Santa Fe Historically Home to Splendid Hats!

The Del Mar Race Track, near your Rancho Santa Fe home, will be celebrating Opening Day next week, on Wednesday, July 18th! That day marks the chance for you and your friends who live in Rancho Santa Fe to make a statement in the One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest. This traditional day of complete outrageousness is one of the events that makes the Del Mar track the coolest place to watch horses race!
Everyone is welcome to enter the contest, and as usual, entrants will be judged based on style and creativity and the taste of attending celebrity judges. Participants can sign up anytime between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Plaza de Mexico, right at the Stretch Run entrance gates. The Hats Parade will be celebrated at 3 p.m. and winners will be announced.
The following categories are expected to yield unheard of entries, so be prepared for stiff competition! Whether you choose to come as “Best Racing Theme,” “Funniest or Most Outrageous,” “Most Glamorous,” “Best Flowers/All Others,” or “Best Fascinator,” your hat is sure to entertain. The Bing Crosby Grand Prize will be awarded as well, and two round-trip airline vouchers to anywhere in the U.S. will be given. Other prizes include $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place in each category and $100 for Best Fascinator First Prize (as the new category), however all entrants will win two free future admission race passes.
