Los Angeles County Museum of Art to Host Tim Burton Exhibit.

From the dark and eerie world of Sleepy Hollow to the fantastical realm within Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the curiouser and curiouser adventures of Alice in WonderlandTim Burton has transformed many of our favorite timeless fairytales into the top rated films in contemporary pop culture. His whimsical Pop Surrealism spirit has reinvented Hollywood filmmaking, exploring the mystique of the gothic and emphasizing the power of imagination. It is this twisted genius that brought the fun back to film.
From the first time I watched Edward Scissorhands in 1990, I felt a connection to the raw creativity in Burton’s work, and always craved a glimpse inside his artistic process. Where do these ideas come from, and how does he bring them to life? If you also desire to dig deeper into the mind of Tim Burton, it’s time to start planning a day trip to Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art presents Tim Burton, a major retrospective exploring the full range of Tim Burton’s creative work, both as a director of live-action and animated films, and as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. The revealing museum exhibition boasts over 700 drawings, paintings, photographs, moving-image works, storyboards, puppets, concept artworks, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, including never before seen personal projects. Many featured objects are from Burton’s own archive, as well as the private collections of Burton’s collaborators. The Tim Burton exhibition was originally organized by The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and is now coming to Southern California for a limited time only. Tim Burton is on view at LACMA from May 29 through October 31, 2011.
