Local Treasure: The Rancho Santa Fe Library

The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”  -Albert Einstein

While Einstein’s theory of relativity may still be debated in scientific circles, it’s safe to say that his theory about libraries remains uncontested. This is especially true in Rancho Santa Fe, where residents enjoy a superb local library. While the Rancho Santa Fe Library is part of the San Diego County Library system, it receives additional support through the Library Guild of Rancho Santa Fe. What this means is that our branch offers abundant resources, from children’s and adult programs to author talks and a used bookstore. That’s why we’ve chosen the Rancho Santa Fe Library as one of our Local Treasures.

Children’s Programs

We may be biased, but we think that the Rancho Santa Fe Library has some of the best children’s programs in the area. There is something happening every day for kids, and they have a diverse range of programs. These include Fun Storytimes, Creative Crafts, Early Literacy Games, Multicultural Programs, Puppet Shows, a Summer Reading Program, Special Guest Performers and much more. The library has always placed a special emphasis on children, and their resources for kids are robust.

Adult Programs

There are plenty of programs for adults, too. Get to know your neighbors at the fun Monthly Book Club that happens at 2 pm on the second Friday of every month. Make crafts with your older children at Free Adult and Teen Craft on the second Saturday of the month at 11 am. You can even learn hacks for your kitchen on the third Thursday of the month at 12:30 pm.

Author Talks

The Rancho Santa Fe Library Guild also hosts Author Talks approximately four times a year. These events feature some of the country’s most notable authors who talk about their most recent books. Recent guests include Susan Orlean, Amy Poeppel, and Melanie Benjamin. The events are $45 and include a signed copy of the book and lunch. Library Guild members are invited to participate for free.

The RSF Book Cellar

Did you know that the library operates the only bookstore in town? The RSF Book Cellar sells a wonderful collection of gently used books, music, and videos. They hold half-price sales every May and October, and they also stock collectors books, first editions, and popular new reads. They accept donations that help stock both the library and the store. These donations also support other organizations such as the San Pasqual Academy, Care Packages From Home for active military, and the Juvenile Hall Teen Book Clubs.

Location and Hours

The Rancho Santa Fe Library is located at 17040 Avenida de Acacias in Rancho Santa Fe. They are open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and are closed on Sunday. The Bookstore is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and is also closed on Sunday. If you haven’t check out the library yet, then now is the time!
