Local Treasure: Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club

Here at Lucy Kelts Collection, we like to spotlight local organizations that contribute to the quality of life here in Rancho Santa Fe. This month, we’re excited to tell you about the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club, one of our favorite local treasures! For nearly 100 years the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club has supported the development of charitable horticulture and conservation activities within the city and surrounding region. Let’s learn more about what this fantastic group has to offer!

A brief history of the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been almost 100 years since the garden club was created! Back in 1926, a small group of local families got together with the idea to start the club to promote gardening in Rancho Santa Fe. 10 years later a clubhouse was constructed, and in 1937 the group was officially incorporated. The group sponsored the first anti-litter and clean-up campaign in San Diego County. In 1957 they began working with the Rancho Santa Fe Association to beautify community spaces such as the post office. The club built a new, larger clubhouse in 1974, where they stayed until 2014. Today, the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club is an active philanthropic organization.

Provide grants for local non-profits

In keeping with their philanthropic mission, the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club offers grants for local horticulture, conservation, and educational programs. This year they awarded $100,000 in grants to 16 local non-profits including the RSF Association’s Forestry Health Committee, who will use their grant to plant 50 trees in the “Honor Grove” Arboretum.

Host a variety of annual events

The Rancho Santa Fe Garden Clubs hosts wonderful events and field trips throughout the year. Recent events have included Coffee in the Garden with Chickens, Salad in the Garden, Pesto Party, Upcycled Glass Garden Art Workshop, and the Moonlight Soiree. Members have a unique opportunity to learn new skills, develop lasting friendships, and support important community initiatives.

Run a popular resale shop

One way that the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club supports the community and raises funds for its programs is through their resale shop, Bloom Again. The charming shop is located on the corner across from the library and school in Rancho Santa Fe. They offer an eclectic selection of gently used items like furniture, art, music, toys, clothing, decor, and jewelry. Volunteers run the shop which has been in operation for more than 50 years! They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and gladly accept your donations which are tax-deductible.
