Memorial Day is a day to celebrate freedom and to remember those who’ve touched our lives through their service to our country and the protection of our privileges. For some, including many children who live in Rancho Santa Fe, freedom simply means a day free from school to spend with family and friends. However, if you want to educate and enjoy a traditional honoring of military heros in a Memorial Day Ceremony, you can join the City of Solana Beach and Solana Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5431. The event is free, close to your Rancho Santa Fe home, and everyone is welcome from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 28th at La Colonia Community Center, located at 715 Valley Avenue in Solana Beach.
The honor guard will be represented by Camp Pendleton Young Marines and State Senator Mark Wyland will speak alongside Solana Beach Mayor Joe Kellejian and Randy Treadway, Post Commander for VFW Post 5431 at this special event. Patriotic songs played by the Santa Fe Christian School Band will stir hearts and a dove release, entitled “Doves from Heaven” by Joe and Leslie Irwin will add significance to the day as well. A Veteran’s Memorial Wall, honoring Solana Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars can be viewed and tours of the Historical Museum will be given, too. To find out more, please call 858.720.2453.
