Beautiful native California plants and wonderfully diverse sculpture installations are able to be seen close to your Rancho Santa Santa Fe home daily. But were you aware that the San Diego Botanic Garden is currently sponsoring a “Sculpture in the Garden” exhibit? It opened at the end of June and will run until April of next year. The Botanic Garden is a quick drive from Rancho Santa Fe homes, so you can observe the sculptures in a variety of lights and seasons.
The work of 23 artists from around the San Diego area is showcased in this unique installation. It’s quite an eclectic show. Enjoy Patrick E’s beautiful monarch butterfly fashioned from stainless steel and glass. He also has created a ladybug family made of steel and ceramic tile for display. For a totally different style and ethos, check out Hugo Heredia Barrera’s enormous abstract piece of hot formed glass and fabricated metal.
The interplay between each sculpture and the surrounding environment of the San Diego Botanic Garden is quite fascinating. You can take a self-guided tour with the Sculpture Map. As you observe the sculptures, you’ll also get a great tour of the Botanic Garden. You may even get some ideas for the landscaping at your Rancho Santa Fe home. Visit the Sculpture in the Garden webpage to learn more about the participating artists and the gardens.
