The Del Mar Art Center

The Del Mar Art Center is where high culture and perfect climate combine to create the perfect ambiance for appreciating the beauty of the visual arts.  The Del Mar Art Center has been dedicated to educating the general public, and fostering an awareness of the fine arts for more than a decade.  The beauty of the visual arts have delighted and amazed people since cavemen first scrawled their paintings of the walls at the Lascaux Caves.  The Del Mar Art Center is one of the few places in Southern California where artists can exhibit regularly through the peer jury process, and visitors and locals alike are the beneficiaries as they are able to partake in a wide array of available activities, events, and exhibits.
History
Formed as a non-profit organization in July 2000, the center’s co-founders, Maria Gardiner and Betty Sandbrook, with the help of innumerable volunteers and local artists, were finally able to claim their space where art in all forms could be displayed and admired.
In the nearly fourteen years since they opened their doors, The Del Mar Arts Center has consistently met their goal of providing an artistic haven for the creatively minded.  Indeed, since then their repertoire has only expanded to include musical concerts, educational programs, art receptions, literary readings, public lectures, and demonstrations just to list a few.
Exhibits
Whether it’s the ceramic and glass work of Karen Fidel, or a display of one of Karen Aschenbrenner’s watercolor works, which seemingly teases out the subtle interplay between light and shadows before the eyes, there is a medium available to satiate the artistic palette.  In fact, everything from the traditional artistic mediums of painting, sculptures, and photography to the more esoteric artistic elements of jewelry, ceramics, glass, and mixed media are on the menu for  viewers artistic consumption.
Events
A visit to The Del Mar Art Center will just as likely feature an award winning local art exhibit as it is a renowned author’s book signing, and it is all available in beautiful Del Mar, California on the ground floor of the Del Mar Plaza.  Their doors are open to the community and they play host to a wide array of fun filled and educational events.  Whether someone is looking to fill a few lazy hours admiring amazing artistic displays by local talented artists, or they need to schedule a meeting room for their local organization, the Del Mar Art Center is a priceless community resource.
