The Rancho Santa Fe School District will be starting off October with a week of community service focused on learning and creating acts of kindness near your Rancho Santa Fe home. This first week will focus on Rachel’s Challenge. Rachel’s Challenge is a program designed to teach students and adults to create a culture of kindness and compassion and alleviate bullying and feelings of isolation throughout the community. Developed from the writings and life of 17 year-old Rachel Scott, the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999, this program shares her message of reaching out to students who didn’t quite fit in.
Throughout October (and the entire school year) students who live in Rancho Santa Fe will witness how an act of kindness can cause a “chain reaction” of kindness in school and in the community. Students will earn chain links as they display kindness and contribute to creating a long chain to be displayed as a symbol of their commitment to use kindness and respect in our community.
