Cardiff-by-the-Sea – The fastest-growing street fair for dogs and dog lovers in Southern California is set for Saturday, August 14th, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Aberdeen Drive in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. The fifth annual Dog Days of Summer, hosted by the Cardiff 101 MainStreet, is expected to draw more than 5,000 four-legged friends, fans and family members.
“They say every dog has his day, and this year it’s August 14th” says event co-chair, Debbie Mitchell. “The community and their canine friends come together for contests, games, raffles, vendors, and, of course, food. It’s a great way to see old friends and make new ones of the two-and-four-legged variety.”
Highlights of this year’s Dog Days of Summer event include the Purina Rally to Rescue Pro Plan Ambassador Program, an obstacle course sponsored by K-9 Connection, a Kid Zone with a bird show and games, silent auction, raffle drawings (including a weekend Carmel getaway for two) and contests such as, Cutest Puppy, Best Dressed Dog, Best Kisser to name a few. There will be music, vendor booths and the County Animal Services Rabies, Vaccination, License and Microchip Clinic will be in attendance, too. Again, this year, we will open the event with The Blessing of the Animals by Drupon Samten Rinpoche of the Tibetan Meditation Center of Escondido.
“Every year, the event grows in size and scope,” according to co-chair, Brad Maassen. “New to this year’s event is the Speaker Series that will help to educate and enlighten current and future pet owners. And, you don’t want to miss the special performance by celebrity dog trainer Melissa Heeter and the Purina Incredible Dog Team.”
The first 500 attendees will receive “WAG BAGS” full of canine goodies. Proceeds benefit local animal charities and Cardiff 101 MainStreet, which sponsors other community events throughout the year.
