The pining for Brees in San Diego has been reduced to a whisper with the unqualified success of Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, but Brees’ ties to San Diego remain strong. He maintains an off-season residence here, and Integrated Sports Marketing last week announced that Brees will take over the celebrity golf event at Morgan Run in Rancho Santa Fe that former Chargers quarterback Stan Humphries hosted for 10 years. The Celebrity Championship hosted by Drew Brees will be held May 20-23, with Rady Children’s Hospital and the Pro Kids Golf Academy as the primary beneficiaries.
“We still love the San Diego community,” said Brees, whose family has grown with the birth of his first child, son Baylen, last January on the player’s 30th birthday. “We still love the people. I definitely credit my days in San Diego for molding me as a player and a person. At times, it does seem like that was long ago, but it still stays pretty close to my heart.”
It is nice to know that Drew Brees still is giving back to San Diego.
